As a new student, before you arrive at Reed, you will meet with your registration coach and then register for classes. Your registration coach will discuss your academic plans and your course choices for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.
Below is a checklist of things you can do during the summer to prepare for your Zoom session with your registration coach.
Summer
- Peruse the for a comprehensive overview of the college's academic programs, course offerings, group requirements, and major requirements.
- Review the to see the time and day classes are offered. You can use filters to select courses by subject, to see which courses meet group requirements, and courses with no prerequisites. Courses without prerequisites are available to first-year students.
- If you’ve taken AP or IB classes, you may find the first-year student credit guide helpful in determining how these credits may apply to your degree requirements.
Just before your Zoom session with your registration coach
- Use the to complete this schedule planner before your zoom session with your registration coach.
- Review the to explore major and minor requirements as well as the Distribution Requirements.
- Write a list of questions for your registration coach about courses, requirements, etc.
- Ask for your SOLAR PIN (you need this to register for classes)
Keep in mind that some majors (such as physics) require you to get started in that department right away in order to graduate on time. It is important to tell your registration coach if you are considering different majors.
As you plan your schedule, be sure to select classes (and labs, conferences, etc.) that don't conflict with each other. During orientation week you will have the opportunity to go over your schedule with your academic advisor and correct any errors. Toward the end of the fall term, there will be opportunities to change your spring registration as your academic interests and plans evolve.
